Pictured here is my 88 year old grandma at my cousin's wedding this past fall. Their wedding photographer posted these photos with the headline "I was shooting thru tears...<3" Many family members joyfully shared in her sentiment with comments that included "how incredibly sweet" or "what a great moment to capture." From the outside this photo appears to be a beautiful moment shared between a granddaughter and her grandmother as you witness the smile on my grandmother's face. What you don't see pictured here are my tear filled eyes as my grandmother questions who I am. She suffers from parkinson's and older age so her mind isn't as sharp as it once was. The day this photo was posted and those beautiful words were shared, I made the decision to leave the pain of that experience there, in that moment. What I realized is that I have the ability and the right to change my perception of reality. So now when I see these photos I smile with fond memories of being able to see my grandmother that day.
